Teacher Resource Books
Explicit. Structured. Supportive.
The Flying Start to Literacy: Phonics Teacher Resource Books contain everything a teacher needs for the beginning reader’s success with phonics.
The Teacher Resource Books provide teachers with explicit instruction using lesson plans, review lessons, assessment tasks and consolidation activities.
Explicit, structured and supportive, the Flying Start to Literacy: Phonics lessons are easy to teach. They offer all the support needed to implement a successful phonics program.
The common speech sounds that make up the English language are introduced across seven units. Lesson plans in each unit support your students to expand their knowledge of words, sounds and letters. As each phoneme is introduced, your students are encouraged to:
- Say it – Oral language development
- Hear it – Phonological awareness
- Write it – Phonics.
Each lesson facilitates the explicit teaching of oral language, phonological awareness, phonics, morphology, and high-utility words.
Writing instruction is also included in each lesson. Students’ writing provides opportunities for teaching phonemic awareness and letter knowledge.
Each lesson in the program concludes with further consolidation activities where students can apply their learning. These activities can be used as extension activities in pairs, small groups or individually.
Reproducible resources that support the learning in each unit include:
- Rhymes
- High-utility words
- Practice sentences
- Letter–Picture cards and Letter cards (Units One–Three)
- Word–Picture cards (Units Four–Seven).
Assessment is built into the program to organise your students for learning, and to monitor their progress.
